4.  Adirondack (Red) Spruce (picea rubens)

Sought after pre-WWII Martins were made from this. During the war the wood was used for military purposes and heavily harvested. Old growth trees are hard to get now, usual grading criteria does not work here: Even solid AAAs have wider grains compared to other spruce species and have hard lines.
